CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR (CRC)
 INDIGENOUS EDUCATION

Judy Iseke's current research is focused on stories and histories of Indigenous peoples. She works with community Elders, exploring the oral traditions, stories, and histories of indigenous families and communities in order to understand the complex and diverse needs and responsibilities related to Indigenous knowledge. Her studies focus on the nature of local struggles involved in retaining and affirming Indigenous knowledge forms within modern contexts. In addition, she is examining the role played by storytelling in educating community members and the next generation. She has a particular interest in how storytelling contributes to pedagogic practice and Indigenous media. Dr. Iseke's research program addresses the need for resources and Indigenous interpretations of culture, history, pedagogy, and curriculum. She is increasing an awareness and appreciation of the needs, knowledge, experiences, and contributions of Indigenous community Elders in Canada.
